Write a 10-row reflection on your own performance writing the IWA. What did you do well? if you had the opportunity to do it all over again, what would you do different? Identify your major challenges, etc.
I think that in my IWA I did a good job researching about the topic and know what I was looking for specifically. I would have done differently than I would have organized more my self since I had a lot of information I wanted to place all of it in one paragraph. Inside I should have separated the information into sections to see what I can connect with what inside of trying to place everything by force. The links of the references I would have written them more organized because it was difficult that in the end, I was struggling to write them in the right way and seeing what I actually used in the text and what I decided to eliminated since it wasn't of reference to my argument. My timing was also an issue, I should have organized my writing times better that way I wouldn't be pressure at the end of the due date.
I had some difficulties writing my IWA. First of all, there were not many sources that were academic that supported my argument. My IWA is based more on other types of sources. In order to find more academic sources, I need to find a research question that is not too specific. If a question is broader, there is more information that can be found. The important thing to remember is that a research question that is too broad is not effective, since there is too much ground to be covered and the information that is written is too general. I think that I made a good argument. Even though the sources used were not as strong as they could have been, the argument is strong enough to convince and argue the position. I could counter the counterargument in my IWA and present coherent ideas that supported my position while refuting the counterargument. If I were to write another IWA about the same topic, I would find another topic with more information in order to have a stronger paper that has a stronger argument that is supported by stronger sources.
Compared to writing my IRR, writing the IWA was much easier, because I was familiar to some of the information of the stimulus material due to my psychology class. Also, I can say I enjoyed my topic because it was something I was truly interested in. Again, in comparison to my IRR I actually did a good job in my sear for sources. I based my IWA in reliable sources with credible authors. Also, I’m proud that I actually organized my ideas prior to writing. I had a little outline that helped me organize my thoughts. At the end I think it turned out okay, there are definitely some aspects which I would go back and improve. Starting with the transitions among paragraphs, I would try to make them much more smoother so the reading itself could be easier. Also, I now just realized that there is not a concrete solution/conclusion to my paper so if I could go back I would focus more on it so that my IWA can have a strong closure. Some of the major challenges I faced was keeping up with the citations, I always lost the links that I used. Also, it was difficult to avoid diverging from my topic. In my writing I noticed I kept going off topic. I’ll keep this considerations in mind for next semester when I write my IWA.
Lidia Sarmiento: The topic I chose for my Individual Written Argument was the correlation between arts and intelligence, more specifically SAT scores. Since this is a topic I am very interested in, it was easier for me to write the paper. If it is compared to the IRR, I struggled a lot less because I could find a lot of information from reliable sources that backed up my argument. Since I had good sources, mostly from EBSCO and from the stimulus package, I was able to write a detailed paper with many perspectives. After I was done, I actually learned a lot about my topic. It is a topic of my interest because I have always been involved with the arts, and I went into detail about how it actually benefits the human brain and consequently affects standardized test results. I was also familiar with many of the terms that were used so it was not hard to understand. The problem that I faced was, once again, time management. I believe that if I had organized my time I would have written a better report. After the due date, I realized many simple mistakes that I forgot to correct. An example would be the citations. I'll use what I learned about the writing process for next semester's assignments.
After writing my IWA I can say it was one of the most challenging written papers I have written. Doing an IWA implicates doing a lot of research until you become an expert on the topic you are writing a paper about and using only scholarly resources. I find it very challenging to do in text citations after using any source and then including them into the resource section. There was a lot of information, so it was very difficult to select the most important and reliable to use to do my research. It was also very challenging to connect all of my research to information from the stimulus packet. After writing, I think I did a good job on my Individual Written Argument. I know I could’ve done a better job if i had not procrastinated. For the next semester, I know I can not leave everything for the last minute and and that I need to do a lot of research to have a better paper.
Julian Gonzalez: I felt the IWA and the IRR very similar. The major differences were that the IWA was much longer, the topic could not be openly selected, and that the research question was more specific. These gave it a higher degree of difficulty, but I still feel like I did well. I liked my topic, so I was interested while researching about the different studies, which it gave me good information to include. I felt I did good including Jaeggi's and Kilngberg's investigations and results. I also liked how I structured my counterargument paragraph, which refuted other claims. If I had the opportunity to do it again, I think I would have organised the essay better, which was one of the most challenging things. And also have searched for more perspectives to widen its context. But overall, I feel like I did a good job writing this IWA, and hope to improve on the next one.
I did struggle while writing my IWA, but still I did a good job. The words require were really large and I thought that it was impossible to write so much about one topic that we research. First I struggle to find out which topic I will like to talk about. After I decide that nutrition was my main focus I has lots of trouble since I could not find a controversial topic. I changed my main focus several times until I came up with veganism. I liked that topic since it is really common know at days but there are people who oppose to it. I started researching and I had no idea what to expect, but at last I was satisfied with my finding. The more I research the easier it was to write more words and connect the dots. It was wasy to find a counter argument since many people oppose to vegans. If I do the IWA again I think I will not change the topic but my organization. I waited until the lasts days to finish my research paper and that could somehow lower the quality of my work.
Writing my IWA was not that easy as I imagine. What I liked the most was that the topic from the stimulus package had a vast amount of sources in the internet from where I could research from. I find it difficult to start writing the IWA because at first I didn’t had an outline from where I could organize my ideas. I started writing the IWA without organising the ideas I had so it was difficult for me to think and organise the information that I had research before. I think I did well at including various perspectives and studies for evidence to my research question. On the other hand, if I had the opportunity to do it all over again, I would start by making an outline, organise my ideas, and do things on time, not the last day. I finished my IWA a day before, when I could have finish it earlier if I would manage my time wisely. In overall, I believe I worked hard for my research paper and im looking forward to identify my sources of error in order to make improvements for the second semester.
I think that in my IWA I did a good job researching the information required to make the reader understand clearly what the topic is about. The information that I gathered comes from reliable and credible sourced which benefits my paper as well. Although, one of the major challenges while doing this report was finding enough sources, even though I got lucky that my topic has plenty of information, I had to use other research engines to look for information, such as Google Scholar. I would have stuck with EBSCO, it would have been more difficult to find information that fits. However, what I could have improved in my report was the citations and the reference list, since I think that most of them are not correctly made. If I could re-do my report I would change my Reference List and improve it.
Alejandro Morales Writing my IWA was a different experience than writing my IRR. My IWA was a topic that I personally chose and it was much more work than my IRR. Since it is my first one, there are things that could be improved, but I am happy for my work. I think it is good and that I wrote a good report. I made a good profound research, and I liked what I was researching about. I researched in a variety of webpages that helped me to link and connect the different ideas I was learning. If I could start my IWA all over again I would change the organization of how I made the IWA. I regret myself that I didn't organized in working on my report constantly. I left all the work to the last 3 days and it was very hard for me to finish it. I would put due dates regarding a word count for each due date so I can advance my IWA in equal parts.
I think that in my IWA I did a good job researching about the topic and know what I was looking for specifically.
