Today we had a discussion about our research questions. Every team passed to the front to present different difficulties and issues they dealt with while researching for the question. In my research question, I had difficulty finding resources that were academic journals and outside of Mexico. This means that I found newsletters from Mexico only; therefore, they were biased and provided only one perspective for the issue. My classmates gave me useful advises to tackle the issues I had.
In Friday's class we got to discuss the Research questions from the three teams. Each of the teams divulge their research question, and started to give information about their topic. As everyone had a lens, it could be political and historical, ethical, economic, among others, each of the students discuss what they had researched about the lens they had. Students who were not in the same team also started to discuss some problems they may have while research, some tips or things they can do in order to enrich the research for their question. The purpose for this activity was to help the teams in their research question and to go deeper in their lenses.
Melissa: On the class of September 14 we did a small debate about our research question. Each group at a time went to the other side of the classroom and started commenting about their topic. The objective was to improve our focusses and questions with the help of the other classmates. My research question is: How does impunity affects low class Mexican society? I started talking about my lense which is historical and political. Class mates had a lot of doubts and we were able to answer them. Then we also commented about the difficulties we have for choosing impunity in Mexico. I think that this activities helps us a lot to improve our research because it gives us opportunity to get different perspectives.
Julian Gonzalez: Last class we had an activity called Philosophical Chairs/Socratic Seminar, that consisted of all teams going to the front and presenting their research question to the rest of the students. Our team was the second one to discuss their ideas. Our research question was constructively criticised since it was too broad and we had to narrow our search. Instead of talking about the death penalty's effects on the United States, we chose a state, California, to highlight and maximize our information. Each member presented their lens, and talked about what they will include in their individual research report. The other teams did the same, it served as conclusion for our research questions, and as a starting point for the essay we now have to start.
Alejandro Morales: In the last class of AP Seminar each team had the opportunity to share their research question to the rest of the class. Every classmate of the team explained their lens they had to research on. After all the class knew the research question, classmates said critics or good comments about the question. This helped the team to understand how other people view their question and how can they improve it. Our research question was regarding death penalty in the United States, but our classmates said it was really extensive so we modified it into death penalty in California. When I explained my lens to the class, my friends had some opinions in what I said that made me improve my further research. In my case, my lens was "Political and Historical" my classmates recommended things like including statistics from past years and nowadays to compare and analyze the topic's history.
In the last class of AP Seminar, the teacher gave us the opportunity to share our research questions with the whole group, in order to obtain helpful feedback to enrich our IRR's. Each team would go to the front of the classroom and explain their research question to the whole class and will eventually explain their respective lenses to the whole class. My team had the opportunity to share its research question which is the following; "What are the assets of legalizing abortion? We also discussed about the lenses we've chosen which were the economic, social and cultural, ethical and political. After exposing our research questions, my classmates asked questions regarding our topic and our lenses. I think that this class was very helpful because it helped us narrow our research question and perhaps to sharpen the focus our our lenses.
Lorena: Last class, the teacher decided to do a recreative activity, all the groups got to share their research questions and received feedback from everyone in the class and the teacher. Students got to interact with skills of listening and giving their point of view to the rest of the class. In my experience, it was good to listen to what people had to say because sometimes we don't think outside our circle. It is good for other people to come and express their point of view to help you think and expand your mind more.
Emilio In last class, our teacher gave us the opportunity to deeply explain our research questions and difficulties to the whole class. Each team was open to good criticism, this helps each team have better ideas on how to make their research question and the topic as a whole. Also, each team shared to the class our struggles on finding information to the topic; that was a disadvantage for every team. This recreative activity help us express our different perspectives about each topic and opens the mind of each student to improve their personal essay.

ReplyDeleteDuring class all of the teams passed to the front and explained their research questions, their lenses and what information they've found. As the teams passed we made comments and told them how they could improve their work. My team was the last to go and we said our research question: What are the assets of legalizing abortion in México? And explained each of our lenses (Social, Economical, Ethical and Historical/Political). Our classmates pointed out multiple perspectives that we hadn't thought of . We had a small debate, arguing back and forth. But overall their feedback was helpful and we will take it into consideration when writing our IRR.
