Write a brief summary of each category expectations for IRR (Task #1) rubric. Please write an 8-rows reflection on the IRR (essays) you read (which one was a high, a medium or a low; what do you think about the topics; are they well written?; are the sources reliable and relevant enough?; what about conventions?).

  1. There are 6 topics in "AP Seminar Performance Task 1: Individual Research Report (IRR) Rubric". The first topic understand and analyze context. They expect that the context is clear and narrow to address the significance of the issue. The topic of understand and analyze arguments you can achieve the 6pts if you demonstrates an
understanding of the reasoning and can explain conclusions. Topic 3: evaluate sources and evidence: You need show clearly the credibility of the sources. In the category of perspectives you need to be able to show distinct perspectives and their connections. Then in the category of apply conventions is all about of the bibliography and its correct way of citing. Finally to achieve 6 points in the last category you need to have a style to connect to the reader in a fluent way.

We had to read 3 IRR essays essays for homework. They were all centered in a specific topic followed by their perspective. In my opinion the highest was the essay relating to the rhino . I think that it includes everything it requires. It had a strong and clear argument and its reasons were well arguments. Connections, evidence and examples are well presented. The second essay was about the effects of war in our environment. I think it was a good essay, it had some essential points although it was not good enough as the first essay. The author focuses on his perspective but did not includes other lenses by this he lowered the quality and credibility of the context. Lastly, the 3rd essay was about cyber bullying. I rank this in the lowest of this 3. First of all the citation weakens the essay in relation to reliability. The information is not specific making it unclear.

  2. In the "AP Seminar Performance Task: 1 Rubric" I identified six different scoring opportunities. Some rows evaluate a maximum of six points and other rows can evaluate a maximum of three points. The higher score is a six or three, depending on the row, which means that the student did an excellent job in his report. The teacher can evaluate a student with 0 if he or she delivers the work in blank, with drawings, any language other than english, or when the responses are below minimum level of quality as identified in the rubric row. I got to read three essays, the first one for me was the most professional, it had many resources, and the author researched his topic from various perspectives. The third essay I read about cyberbullying for me was not that good. The information wasn’t well organized and it could be improved. There were only a small amount of resources.

    1. I don't see the summary of ea. category, nor the 8-rows on the essays (just 4 rows)

  3. In the "AP Seminar Performance Task 1 Rubric" you can see six different scoring criterias and the most possible pints you can get are 6 points. The first criteria will be "Understand and Analyze Context" in which they'll expect to see that the context written is clear and to the point, to understand the importance of the issue in debate. Then, on the row below you can see the criteria of "Understand and Analyze Arguments", on this row your ability of constructing arguments will be graded over 6. The next row shows the criteria of "Evaluate sources and evidence" in which you'll need to show the credibility of the sources. On the next category of "Understanding and Analyzing Perspectives" you're expected to be able to demonstrate different perspectives regarding the topic. Then in the category of "Apply Conventions" it's mainly about the correct way of citing sources. I really liked the essay about how wars affect the environment, I was really convincing but I think they presented just one-way arguments, excluding the counter arguments, which perhaps, may not exist.

There are six categories in the Individual Research Report Rubric. Their content and expectations are the following:
Understand and Analyse Context: Complete investigation of topic or issue using different sources.
Understand and Analyse Argument: Well done explanation and reasoning of sources arguments.
Evaluate Sources and Evidence: Reliable and credible sources used, with relevant evidence.
Understand and Analyse Perspective: Contains a wide range of perspectives, and fully describes each one.
Apply Conventions: Accurately cites the sources used.
Apply Conventions: Report is coherent and understandable, appropriate for an academic audience.
For homework, we had to read three Individual Research Reports, each with a different topic. The first was about Rhino horn poaching and I believe that is was very well elaborated. The writing looked very professional, the argument was strong and could be easily identified, evidence was used, and all sources looked credible. It was of high quality. The second one was about the environmental effects of war. It was a fairly good essay, but not as exceptional as the first one. It did not include various perspectives. The third and last essay about cyber bulling was of lower quality. It was not well organized and could have had better information. The citation page was also poor.

There are 6 different categories of the IRR with certain expectations. The first and second category are "Understanding and Analyzing context". This means that the report includes evidence from research and shows understanding of the investigation. The third category is "Evaluate sources and Evidence". This category is about if the evidence is well used in the report. The fourth category is "Understand and Analyze Perspective". This means that the report should include different perspectives and how are they connected. The last 2 categories are "Apply Conventions". What this means is that the report should have a correct citation and a good use of grammar.

For homework I had to read 3 different essays. The first essay was about rhino poaching in South Africa, and I really liked this essay because it was something I didn't know and it is a problem that people should be aware of. It included perspectives from other countries and how were they involved in this. I think the sources were reliable because the essay had exact numbers of statistics. The second essay I read was about War and how does it affect the environment, it was a good essay, I believe that the information was reliable and that kinds of topics are of my personal interest. The last essay I read was about Cyberbullying. I didn't like that one as much as the others because it was information I already know and I was't as interested. Still, I think the information is credible.

The IRR Rubric focuses on 6 different categories for grading. Analyse context, analyse argument, analyse perspectives, evaluate sources and apply conventions. The rubric aims to evaluate the author's understanding of the argument and its elements. It also focuses on the resources, and being able to identify credible sources and reliable evidence in order to support the main argument. It also evaluates how the argument is linked to a wider context and different perspectives that strengthen the argument due to the evidence presented from various points of views. Out of the three IRR essays that were given to us for reading, the Rhino Poaching one was the highest ranking. This was because it was written in eloquent language, it connects the argument to different perspectives and gives plenty of examples and reliable evidence that give the material credibility. Next, the essay about the war effects. It was also written with good vocabulary and sequence, using plenty of evidence and credible sources. It was still inferior to the Rhino Poaching essay because it was lacking the perspectives element, there needed to be more points of view so the argument could be strong enough. The essay about cyber bullying was the lowest scoring of them all. This is because its sequence was confusing and there was a lack of credible and strong evidence.

The Individual Research Report (IRR) Rubric has six different scoring categories. The expectations for each one are:

Understand and analyze context- The report has a clear context and significance, multiple reliable sources are used.
Understand and analyze argument- The report shows a clear understanding and reasoning of the argument.
Evaluate sources and evidence- The report uses relevant evidence from reliable sources.
Understand and analyze perspective- The report shows and explains multiple perspectives.
Apply Conventions- The sources are correctly cited
Apply Conventions- The report is clear and appropriate to the audience

A few days ago as homework I read three IRR essays. The first one was about the Worldwide Legalization of Rhino Horn trade, in my opinion this essay would have a high score on the rubric. Because it completes almost all of the expectations of the rubric. It sets a larger context, explains multiple perspectives and has multiple reliable sources. The second was about the impacts that war has on the environment. The argument is clear but the ideas seem all over the place. The sources are not cited correctly and only two of the sources seem reliable. The third and last essay was the one with the lowest score. It includes statistical information but the topic is broad, there are no perspectives and the citation page does not seem reliable at all.

  8. Lorena: The Individual Research Report consist of 6 different categories that are: Understand and Analyze Context, Understand and analyze arguments, Evaluate sources and evidence, understand and analyze perspective, apply conventions and apply conventions. Each one has it own grading system. The essay needs to have this six categories to stand out and that the audience gets it clearly. The first essay was about the Rhino Horn Trade, they had a clear idea and a good manage of points of view. It states different scenarios and it has most of the points. The second on is about the environment and they explore the idea very well, but I feel that since environment is a wide topic they could have done a better job. The third one is about a cyberbullying and in my opinion it has the lowest score since it has low information and doesn't state their main ideas clearly.

  9. An individual research report rubric is divided into six different categories; Understand and analyze context, understand and analyze argument, evaluate sources and evidence, understand and analyze perspectives, apply conventions one, and apply conventions two.

    - Understand and analyze context: here, in order to get the highest score, the student must have a complete and complex investigation on an issue that is supported by a variety of sources.
    - Understand and analyze argument: Here, the paper must show there is a complete understanding of the topic by presenting valid arguments and reasonable conclusions.
    - Evaluate sources and evidence: the reporter shows the evaluation of all credible and reliable sources.
    - Understand and analyze perspective: all perspectives are discussed and relevant connections are made among this perspectives.
    - Apply conventions: here, the paper must show all accurate sources cited and the bibliography must be the one asked.
    - Apply conventions: the paper communicates clearly to the reader and the way the paper is written is appropriate for the audience.

Out of the three essays, the best according to the rubric, the Rhino Poaching essay was the best one. This is because many perspectives are listed, connections are made, accurate and reliable sources are used, the essay is well structured and the arguments are good.

For homework, we were asked to read three different essays based on the grade they got due to the rubric. The first reading, was a perfect essay, a good elaborated essay. The essay was about rhinos poaching. The second one, was about the U.S Army. That essay was really good too, but not as good as the other one. This one had some simple errors. At last, the essay about cyberbullying was poor. Didn't had the requirements of the essay and had many errors.

  11. There are 6 topics that are graded in the IRR rubric.
    1. Understand and analyze context: grades if the report has a complete and complex research question with supporting information from many reliable sources.
    2. Understand and analyze argument: grades if the report shows understanding and creates an argument
    3. Evaluate source and evidence: grades if the evidence provided is reliable and credible.
    4. Understand and analyze perspective: grades if all perspectives are considered in the report.
    5. Apply conventions: grades if the sources are accurately
and 6. Apply conventions: grades if the report can be read clearly and has correct grammar.

The three essays read clearly showed big differences. The first essay about the white rhinos could be graded as "high." The essay is clear and has various reliable sources that support the argument. The author of the paper shows clear understanding of the topic, creating a strong argument based on the information used. The second essay about the environmental damages that war causes could be graded as "medium." The argument is somewhat strong which is backed up by some reliable sources. The argument is not as strong as the first essay. The topic is somewhat broad and the author could have narrowed the topic further. The third essay about cyberbullying could be graded as "low." The topic is too broad and does not have a clear argument, as well as reliable sources. The formatting of the essay is not correct and the essay does not seem to use reliable sources.
